At least 15 people were killed and 35 others injured when a blast hit a convoy of a political party's leader in Pakistan's southwest district of Mastung on Friday, police official and local media reported.

Qaim Lashari, deputy commissioner of Mastung, told local media that a suicide bomber exploded his explosives-laden vest near the convoy of political party leader Nawabzada Siraj Raisani in the Darengarh area of Mastung, a district in the country's southwest Balochistan province.

Raisani was on its way to attend a public gathering in the district when his convoy was attacked. He reportedly got injured seriously.

Raisani is a candidate of the Balochistan Awami Party in the country's upcoming general elections on July 25 and younger brother of Nawab Aslam Raisani, former chief minister of Balochistan.

Security forces and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to a nearby hospital.

Security forces condoned off the area and kicked off a search operation.

No group or individual has claimed the attack yet.

This is the second major incident of pre-poll violence in the country on Friday.

Earlier in the morning, at least four people were killed and 24 others injured in a blast that hit a convoy of a political party leader in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
