That's the best thing since sliced bread. 意思： 那是有史以來最棒的事 解釋： 如果我們把“那是有史以來最棒的事”說成“the best thing in the history”， 聽來就不那么地道。美國(guó)人是用 the best thing since sliced bread 來表示這個(gè)意思的。

這句話的典故是這樣的，在1928年以前，在美國(guó)所販賣的面包都是整條沒有切的。所以面包買回家后還要自己切。后來有一個(gè)密西根人 Otto Rohwedder 發(fā)明了切面包的機(jī)器，美國(guó)人一時(shí)之間覺得這種機(jī)器實(shí)在是太神奇了，所以往后要是有什么很棒的事情發(fā)生，他們就會(huì)說：

That's the best thing since sliced bread.

那是自從切面包的機(jī)器發(fā)明以來最好的事情。
