SCENE③ B  吉娜去找文斯路過(guò)自己的隔間 

【是跟仰慕者碰面的時(shí)候了】

Zina:           I think it's time for me to meet my admirer and make him face the music.

吉娜：         我想該是跟仰慕者碰面的時(shí)候了，好讓他面對(duì)現(xiàn)實(shí)。

Dave:  You do? How are you going to 1) contact him?

戴夫：         真的？你要怎么聯(lián)絡(luò)上他？

Zina:           I'm leaving him a message 2) taped to my computer screen.

吉娜：         我要留張紙條給他，貼在我的電腦屏幕上。

Dave:  What does it say? Do you think he'll see it?

戴夫：         上面要寫什么？你覺(jué)得他會(huì)看到嗎？

Zina:  He'll see it. It says,  " like sweets. / Meet me at 2:30 in the parking lot."

吉娜：         他會(huì)看到的。上面寫著：“我喜歡甜頭。/兩點(diǎn)半停車場(chǎng)見(jiàn)。”

Dave:  Can I 3) spy on you guys from the window?

戴夫：         我可以從窗戶偷看你們會(huì)面嗎？

Zina:           No. But I'll fill you in later. Right now I have to find Vince.

吉娜：         不可以。不過(guò)我之后會(huì)把過(guò)程跟你說(shuō)。現(xiàn)在我得要去找文斯。

語(yǔ)言詳解:

A: Have you contacted the office today?

   你今天有跟公司聯(lián)絡(luò)嗎？

B: No. I'm taking the day off.

   沒(méi)有。我今天放假。

【face the music 面對(duì)現(xiàn)實(shí)】

做一件事或做一個(gè)決定，不管是好是壞，都要承擔(dān)起后果，時(shí)候到了，都得要 face the music“面對(duì)現(xiàn)實(shí)”。

A: Murder, dealing drugs...It's time for you to face the music.

   謀殺、販毒……你面對(duì)現(xiàn)實(shí)的時(shí)候到了。

B: I don't know what you are talking about, officer. You don't have any proof.

     我不知道你在說(shuō)什么，警官。你沒(méi)有任何證據(jù)。

【fill someone in 讓某人進(jìn)入狀況】

fill 這個(gè)詞是“填滿”的意思，好比“填空”fill in the blanks；fill someone in 在字面上的意思是“將某人填入”，填入的是情況的始末，等于是替對(duì)方做“簡(jiǎn)報(bào)”brief，好讓他了解整件事情到現(xiàn)在為止的來(lái)龍去脈。

A: Is anybody going to fill me in on what happened here? 

   有人可以告訴我這里發(fā)生了什么事嗎？

B: Yes, chief. The fire started at two A.M. It was probably *arson and...

     是的，局長(zhǎng)。凌晨?jī)牲c(diǎn)發(fā)生火災(zāi)。多半是縱火還有……
