Zina:           Hi, boss. You wanted to see me?

吉娜：  嗨，老板。你說要見我？

Vince:  Zina. Look, I know when I 1) hired you, I told you I'd pay you a salary. But I just can't.

Zina:  Excuse me? I hope I didn't just hear what I think I just heard.

吉娜：         你說什么？我希望我不是真的聽到我以為我聽到的。

文斯：         我知道這說來尷尬，不過你以后會(huì)感謝我的。我會(huì)讓你發(fā)財(cái)。

Zina:  You're going to make me rich by not paying me?

吉娜：         你要用不給我薪水的方法讓我發(fā)財(cái)？

語(yǔ)言詳解

A: How many people did the company hire this year?

   公司在今年雇用了多少人？

B: Over two hundred.

   超過兩百個(gè)。

【look聽著】

 很奇怪，怎么英文的look會(huì)翻譯成中文的“聽著”？其實(shí)這正說明文化的差異。在英、美社會(huì)里，要對(duì)方在意你即將說的話，最普遍的語(yǔ)詞是look，而我們?cè)谕瑯忧闆r下卻說“聽著”。

 A:Look, I'll give you ten dollars if you sweep the room for me.

    聽著，如果你幫我掃房間，我就給你十塊錢。

B:Sounds reasonable.

    聽起來蠻合理的。
